Shear International Co. Ltd. is looking for a Metallurgist in its Steel Foundry & Iron Casting Factory in Jeddah KSA. The Metallurgist is responsible for analyzing the physical and chemical properties of metals used in the foundry, ensuring that steel castings meet the required metallurgical standards and customer specifications. This role is critical in developing, monitoring, and improving heat treatment processes, alloy selection, and failure analysis. The Metallurgist supports product quality, process optimization, and innovation initiatives.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities:
⚗️ Metallurgical Analysis:
- Perform metallurgical testing and evaluation of raw materials, in-process products, and finished castings.
- Conduct chemical composition analysis using spectrometry and mechanical testing (e.g., tensile, impact, hardness).
- Examine microstructures using optical microscopy to assess grain size, phase distribution, and inclusion levels.
🧪 Process Control:
- Develop and monitor heat treatment cycles to achieve desired mechanical properties.
- Validate metallurgical parameters during melting, deoxidation, alloying, and refining stages.
- Ensure correct practices in ladle treatment, inoculation, and post-casting metallurgical operations.
🛠️ Quality & Compliance:
- Support quality assurance by validating that castings meet industry standards (ASTM, ISO, EN, etc.).
- Investigate material-related defects or failures (e.g., cracks, porosity, inclusions) and provide root cause analysis and solutions.
- Maintain records and reports of metallurgical tests, inspections, and certifications.
🔄 Process Improvement:
- Work with production and quality teams to improve metallurgical consistency and reduce rework or rejection.
- Participate in R&D for new alloy development or alternative material selection.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of foundry practices based on metallurgical feedback.
🤝 Customer & Technical Support:
- Review customer specifications and provide technical input during quotation and design stages.
- Communicate metallurgical findings to internal stakeholders and clients when needed.
📌 Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related field (Master’s is a plus).
- 3–7 years of experience in steel foundry metallurgy or heavy industry.
- Solid knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, steel grades, phase diagrams, and heat treatment principles.
- Experience with metallurgical lab equipment (spectrometer, microscope, hardness tester, etc.).
- Familiarity with quality systems and international standards (ISO 9001, ASTM, etc.).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
