ISSQUARED is seeking a Senior Motherboard/System Architect to lead projects from design conception through to mass production. This is a highly cross-functional role that requires balancing the demands of data center and IT infrastructure system-level design, including areas such as architecture, mechanical, power, software, firmware, board design, hardware validation, and testing.
The candidate will play a critical role in the development of in-house server motherboards and systems, working collaboratively with internal cross-functional engineering teams as well as external partners to ensure robust product design. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, results-driven, and committed to excellence—focused on delivering highly competitive, reliable, and durable products.
Qualifications: MSEE (CE) with 5+ years or BSEE with 7+ years of hardware design experience.
Experience: 5-10 years, extensive hands-on experience in server product design including compute, storage, networking, and accelerators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define high level architecture for data center motherboard and IT infrastructure include component selection (CPU, Chipset, memory, etc), mechanical power, thermal aspects, block diagram and schematic capture.
- Collaborating with PCB layout designers to define placement and routing constraints, ensuring high-speed signals are properly routed to minimize interference.
- Analyzing and reviewing designs for signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compliance (EMI/EMC)
- Diagnosing and resolving complex hardware issues, including hardware/software compatibility problems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, software, mechanical, validation, manufacturing) to ensure successful product integration and delivery.
- Continuously evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance product performance and competitiveness.
Preferred Skills:
- Expertise in server motherboard design, CPU interfaces (Intel/AMD), DDR memory subsystems, power delivery, and high-speed digital circuits.
- Proficient with PCB and simulation tools (Altium, Cadence, SI/PI/Thermal analysis).
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Skilled in functional specs development, design verification, and testing.
- Strong root cause analysis at board and system level.
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes and diagnostic tools.
System & Industry Knowledge:
- Solid grasp of x86 server architecture, form factors (1U/2U/blade), and data center infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Windows/Linux OS, virtualization, and cloud computing.
- Familiar with BMC, IPMI, Redfish, and industry standards (JEDEC, PCI-SIG, USB-IF, SATA).
